New solid wood diffusion panel scatters unwanted room reflections and controls sound energy
Portuguese acoustic solutions manufacturer Vicoustic has just released Multi Fuser Wood, a new diffusion panel designed to bring both acoustic efficiency and elegance to a range of listening spaces. Made from solid wood, the new diffuser is perfect for use in venues such as concert halls, hi-fi rooms and recording studios, where effective diffusion is often required without too much absorption occurring at the same time. With its striking angled surface, the two-dimensional diffuser is based on a QRD sequence combined with changing reflection techniques (a result of the angled surface).
The panel itself is made in two parts. Each part can be rotated in different directions so that an even, omni-directional scattering of sound is achieved, with particularly effective diffusion of mid and low frequencies. Multi Fuser Wood is available in two versions covering different frequency ranges: Multi Fuser Wood 36 works between 470Hz and 10kHz, while Multi Fuser Wood 64 works between 310Hz and 8kHz.
As well as its acoustic efficiency, the panel’s attractive appearance makes it suitable for use in a range of settings. Available in Light Brown, Black and White finishes.

Sound on Sound have published a review of the Preceptor and Compactor compressors, describing the Preceptor as a seriously impressive musical tool.
The full review is available here. (sadly, behind a paywall)
"The Preceptor is a very versatile solid‐state compressor‐limiter, built to exacting standards, and it should earn its keep in a mastering suite as well as in a music studio. Equally at home controlling individual sources, smoothing mix buses or polishing a master, this is a very accomplished product indeed, and with bonus features to make it interesting. The Compactor is of the same excellent quality, so although its functionality is slightly more limited, it should prove very attractive for tracking and
mix‐bus processing."
We have the very unit that was reviewed available for demo so please call us to make arrangements.
Excitement abounds at Quiteloud Central today as we took delivery of our first Generic Audio Preceptor. We will be arranging demos of this amazing piece of kit over the next few weeks.

Manufacturer adds new lower cost compressor/limiter to developing series of dynamics processors.
Generic Audio, manufacturer of the Preceptor analogue compress/limiter, has announced the upcoming release of Compactor, a cut down version of the powerful dynamics processor designed for studios, engineers and producers who don’t require the full feature set and functionality of the larger model.

Compactor is a two-channel pure analogue Class-A discrete compressor/limiter. Occupying just 2U of rack space (in comparison with Preceptor’s 3U requirement), the overall look and feel of the brand has been maintained with a similar series of rotary and toggle switches used to control the general functionality.
The unit is built from high-quality components and has electronically balanced XLR inputs and outputs. Each channel has an 11-position gold contact audio taper switch that can be used to adjust the input gain in 2dB steps between -5dB and +10dB and an 11-position switch for controlling output gain in 2dB steps within a range of -10/+10dB. Compactor also includes a hard relay Bypass to which it defaults if the unit loses power. Six different Attack and Release time settings are available and an Action switch allows the user to choose between Soft and Hard modes for different applications.
Compactor retains other features from its larger sibling including a Side Chain HPF (with a reduced number of settings) and the Link/Dual Mono switching that enables the unit to operate both as a single stereo compressor with equal gain on both sides and as two separate compressors with each channel operating independently.
Scheduled to ship during July 2011, Compactor is expected to retail in the UK at £2,340.00 (inc VAT).
The Compactor will be available from our online shop.
The Generic Audio Preceptor has been nominated in the Dynamics category of the 2011 Resolution Awards.

Winners will be announced in the Resolution Awards Winners Supplement in the October issue of Resolution magazine.

A no-compromise approach to component choice, coupled with a chunky boutique design
"The more time we’ve spent with this unit, the more we’ve come to appreciate it across the board."
The Preceptor is unusually tall (3U) for a two-channel solid-state device, and though this extra headroom helps to accommodate the large power transformer, its most immediate benefit is in the front-panel design, which offers plenty of tweaking room.

New branding and feature set takes Swiss manufacturer’s popular Unico and David acoustic amps to the next level.
Swiss acoustic amplification systems manufacturer Schertler has announced that the Deluxe versions of its popular Unico and David portable acoustic amplifiers are now available. Aiming to set new standards in acoustic instrument amplification, the 3-channel Unico Deluxe and 2-channel David Deluxe have been re-engineered to deliver outstanding transparency, clarity, warmth and accuracy of sound, while offering a feature set that has been specially designed to suit any acoustic performance situation.
Both models contain a brand new Class A preamplifier (with no integrated circuits), re-engineered power amp and new hi-end speakers. A hi-end headphone preamp has also been added. A further innovation is the inclusion of intelligent inputs that will automatically recognise the impedance of the pickup or microphone, with no DI box or buffer required. Each channel has a 4-band EQ and a special dedicated filter for warmth, resonance and brilliance. Peak LEDs are also fitted on each channel, with LED indicators on phantom power. A -15dB Pad is fitted to the STAT channel, while the MIC/DYN channels include phase reverse.
Weighing in at 19kg, Unico Deluxe offers 280 Watts of bi-amplified power capability. The more compact David Deluxe (weighing approx 13kg) delivers 150 Watts. Both models are designed to be compatible with all current microphone / transducer brands.![]()
